The Book of the Cailleach: Stories of the Wise-woman Healer. Gearóid Ó Crualaoich. Cork University Press, - History - pages. 0 Reviews. This volume presents an analysis of the wise woman healer from the oral traditions of Ireland's rural communities. Stories, told and retold, embedded in the texture of culture and community. Cailleach stuck her finger in the book to hold her place and plopped down on her rocking chair. She must be mistaken about the invader. This was a scholarly work, .

The Book of the Cailleach is broken up into three parts; Tradition and Theory, Stories of the Cailleach and the Wise Woman and, finally, Scealta i dTaobh Cailleach Bhearra agus Scealta i dTaobh Na Mna Feasa. The first part of this work deals with the function of the otherworld female tradition.   Even more personal is the front cover of the book, it is a sketch drawn by my daughter, Emma who was aged 15 at the time. The image really speaks to me of The Cailleach, it is how I see her. The book is filled with lots of stories and folk tales about her from essentially the British Isles but also from her globe trotting.

Cailleach, mother of stone and bone, we call to you Lady of keening, bringer of the seasons Keeper of mysteries and the cauldron of hidden sight Come dark mother and aid us in parting the veil We invite you to join our circle and ask for your blessings Hail and welcome You will need to have 6, 9 or 12 small pebbles or shells to hold in your hand.   Cailleach ~ Witch will be available for pre-order from Amazon (paperback and kindle) on September 3rd Release date is September 17th Release date is September 17th Talking about this book?

She is, in many ways, one of the main creator deities in Irish mythology, but she is far less known than other beings from the same is appropriate that a goddess whose name can be translated as “veiled one” seems to be shrouded compared to the rest of the pantheon.

This is a lovely book for those with an interest in the Cailleach and the folk law that surrounds her, it's not a heavy going booking the author has managed to make it interesting and enjoyable and keeping it light, I also like the way the author puts her own comments to some of the storeys making you feel that she is with you as you take the journey into learning about this wonderful goddess/5(34).
